The differential cross section for isolated-photon production in $pp$ collisions is measured at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$^{-1}$. The differential cross section is presented as a function of the photon transverse energy in different regions of photon pseudorapidity. The differential cross section as a function of the absolute value of the photon pseudorapidity is also presented in different regions of photon transverse energy. Next-to-leading-order QCD calculations from JETPHOX and SHERPA as well as next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD calculations from NNLOJET are compared with the measurement, using several parameterisations of the proton parton distribution functions. The predictions provide a good description of the data within the experimental and theoretical uncertainties.

Inclusive isolated-photon production in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is studied with the ATLAS detector at the LHC using a data set with an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb−1 . The cross section is measured as a function of the photon transverse energy above 125 GeV in different regions of photon pseudorapidity. Next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD and Monte Carlo event-generator predictions are compared to the cross-section measurements and provide an adequate description of the data.

Inspire Record 1717495 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.89370

The ratio of the cross sections for inclusive isolated-photon production in pp collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 13 and 8 TeV is measured using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The integrated luminosities of the 13 TeV and 8 TeV datasets are 3.2 fb$^{−1}$ and 20.2 fb$^{−1}$, respectively. The ratio is measured as a function of the photon transverse energy in different regions of the photon pseudorapidity. The predictions from next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations are compared with the measured ratio. The experimental systematic uncertainties as well as the uncertainties affecting the predictions are evaluated taking into account the correlations between the two centre-of-mass energies, resulting in a reduction of up to a factor of 2.5 (5) in the experimental (theoretical) systematic uncertainties. The predictions based on several parameterisations of the proton parton distribution functions agree with the data within the reduced experimental and theoretical uncertainties. In addition, this ratio to that of the fiducial cross sections for Z boson production at 13 and 8 TeV using the decay channels Z → e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ and Z → μ$^{+}$μ$^{−}$ is made and compared with the theoretical predictions. In this double ratio, a further reduction of the experimental uncertainty is obtained because the uncertainties arising from the luminosity measurement cancel out. The predictions describe the measurements of the double ratio within the theoretical and experimental uncertainties.

In this paper, we report the production cross-section of forward photons in the pseudorapidity regions of η>10.94 and 8.99>η>8.81 , measured by the LHCf experiment with proton–proton collisions at s=13TeV . The results from the analysis of 0.191nb−1 of data obtained in June 2015 are compared to the predictions of several hadronic interaction models that are used in air-shower simulations for ultra-high-energy cosmic rays. Although none of the models agree perfectly with the data, EPOS-LHC shows the best agreement with the experimental data among the models.

A comparison of the differential cross sections for the processes Z/γ$^{*}$ + jets and photon (γ)+jets is presented. The measurements are based on data collected with the CMS detector at $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{−1}$. The differential cross sections and their ratios are presented as functions of p$_{T}$. The measurements are also shown as functions of the jet multiplicity. Differential cross sections are obtained as functions of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the sum of all jet transverse momenta and of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the leading jet transverse momentum. The data are corrected for detector effects and are compared to simulations based on several QCD calculations.

The multiplicity and pseudorapidity distributions of inclusive photons have been measured at forward rapidities ( $2.3 < \eta < 3.9$ ) in proton–proton collisions at three center-of-mass energies, $\sqrt{s}$   $=$ 0.9, 2.76 and 7 TeV using the ALICE detector. It is observed that the increase in the average photon multiplicity as a function of beam energy is compatible with both a logarithmic and a power-law dependence. The relative increase in average photon multiplicity produced in inelastic pp collisions at 2.76 and 7 TeV center-of-mass energies with respect to 0.9 TeV are 37.2 $\pm $ 0.3 % (stat) $\pm $ 8.8 % (sys) and 61.2 $\pm $ 0.3 % (stat) $\pm $ 7.6 % (sys), respectively. The photon multiplicity distributions for all center-of-mass energies are well described by negative binomial distributions. The multiplicity distributions are also presented in terms of KNO variables. The results are compared to model predictions, which are found in general to underestimate the data at large photon multiplicities, in particular at the highest center-of-mass energy. Limiting fragmentation behavior of photons has been explored with the data, but is not observed in the measured pseudorapidity range.

A measurement of the cross section for the production of isolated prompt photons in pp collisions at a center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV is presented. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 4.6 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The cross section is measured as a function of photon pseudorapidity $\eta^\gamma$ and transverse energy $E_T^\gamma$ in the kinematic range 100 < $E_T^\gamma$ < 1000 GeV and in the regions |$\eta^\gamma$| < 1.37 and 1.52 < |$\eta^\gamma$| < 2.37. The results are compared to leading-order parton-shower Monte Carlo models and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. Next to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations agree well with the measured cross sections as a function of $E_T^\gamma$ and $\eta^\gamma$.

This Letter reports a measurement of the cross section for producing pairs of central prompt isolated photons in proton-antiproton collisions at a total energy of 1.96 TeV using data corresponding to 9.5/fb integrated luminosity collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured differential cross section is compared to three calculations derived from the theory of strong interactions. These include a prediction based on a leading order matrix element calculation merged with parton shower, a next-to-leading order, and a next-to-next-to-leading order calculation. The first and last calculations reproduce most aspects of the data, thus showing the importance of higher-order contributions for understanding the theory of strong interaction and improving measurements of the Higgs boson and searches for new phenomena in diphoton final states.

Isolated photon production is measured in proton-proton and lead-lead collisions at nucleon-nucleon centre-of-mass energies of 2.76 TeV in the pseudorapidity range |eta|<1.44 and transverse energies ET between 20 and 80 GeV with the CMS detector at the LHC. The measured ET spectra are found to be in good agreement with next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD predictions. The ratio of PbPb to pp isolated photon ET-differential yields, scaled by the number of incoherent nucleon-nucleon collisions, is consistent with unity for all PbPb reaction centralities.

A measurement of the differential cross section for the inclusive production of isolated prompt photons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is presented. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 36 inverse picobarns recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurement covers the pseudorapidity range |eta|<2.5 and the transverse energy range 25 < ET < 400 GeV, corresponding to the kinematic region 0.007 < xT < 0.114. Photon candidates are identified with two complementary methods, one based on photon conversions in the silicon tracker and the other on isolated energy deposits in the electromagnetic calorimeter. The measured cross section is presented as a function of ET in four pseudorapidity regions. The next-to-leading-order perturbative QCD calculations are consistent with the measured cross section.

The measurement covers the pseudorapidity ranges |eta|<1.37 and 1.52<|eta|<1.81 in the transverse energy range 15 < E_T <100 GeV. The results are based on an integrated luminosity of 880 nb-1, collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Photon candidates are identified by combining information from the calorimeters and from the inner tracker. Residual background in the selected sample is estimated from data based on the observed distribution of the transverse isolation energy in a narrow cone around the photon candidate. The results are compared to predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations.

Data on the multiplicity and inclusive spectra of γ produced in inelastic pNe20 and pN interactions at 300 GeV are presented. The γ multiplicity for pNe20 interactions is 11.43±0.23, and the ratio of 〈nγ〉 for pNe20 and pN interactions is 1.48±0.05. From an analysis of the effective-mass distributions, 〈nπ0〉=4.91±0.52 and 〈nη0〉=1.47±0.33. In fact, η0 production is much higher in pNe20 interactions [R(η0π0)=0.66±0.12 for np≥21] than in pN interactions [R(η0π0)=0.06±0.04]. No η′(958) signal is seen. Strong correlations between 〈nγ〉 and np, the number of secondary protons, are observed, primarily from the central and target fragmentation regions. Inclusive y* and p⊥ spectra are analyzed and evidence for low-energy cascading and rescattering of fast particles in the projectile fragmentation region is discussed. The data are compared to the predictions of the additive quark model, the Lund model, and the dual parton model.
