We report on double-differential inclusive cross-sections of the production of secondary protons, deuterons, and charged pions and kaons, in the interactions with a 5% nuclear interaction length thick stationary beryllium target, of a +8.9 GeV/c proton and pion beam, and a -8.0 GeV/c pion beam. Results are given for secondary particles with production angles between 20 and 125 degrees.

The angular distributions of secondary pions, protons, and deuterons originating from π−Pb interactions at an incident-pion momentum of 5 GeV/c was determined in a new run of measurements relying on track reconstruction. While showing a decrease over a large angular interval with increasing emission angle, the yield of cumulative particles of each species was found to be anomalously large near the backward direction.

The inclusive cross sections of backward proton production in π − ( K − , p ) -Be, Al, Cu, Pb interactions at 40 GeV/ c are presented. Protons have been detected in the angular range 150°–165° and kinetic energy region 0.1–0.3 GeV. The invariant cross-section ratios for various beam particles are independent of the values of kinetic energy and of the nuclear target type: 〈ƒ K − /ƒ π − 〉= 0.87 ± 0.03 stat ± 0.03 syst , 〈ƒ p /ƒ π − 〉 = 1.82 ± 0.10 stat ± 0.05 syst . The A -dependence of the cross-section slope parameter for A ⩾27 is less than ∼2%.

We present the first results on the production of fast (p>10 GeV/c)p,$\bar p$, Λ and$\bar \Lambda $ from π± hydrogen and nucleus interactions at 30 GeV/c using the CERN Ω′ spectrometer. We have used five nuclear targets (C, Al, Cu, Sn, Pb) to study theA-dependence of the inclusive particle distributions in the region 0.3<xF<0.6. The high statistical level of our experiment allows us to demonstrate the differentA-behaviour of baryon and antibaryon inclusive reactions. We relate this difference to the final state interaction inside a nucleus using the formation-zone model.
