K − p reactions have been studied at 13 different incident momenta between 1138 and 1434 MeV/ c . This interval corresponds to a mass of the K − p system varying from 1858 to 1993 MeV. About 300 000 photographs were taken in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated K − beam at the CERN proton-synchrotron. A total of about 44 000 events were analyzed, from which partial and differential cross sections were determined. Polarizations were obtained for the two-body reactions where the decay of the Λ or Σ hyperon allowed their measurement. Data for the two-body channels are presented here as well as for the main quasi-two-body reactions.

We report a measurement of the differential cross section, d{\sigma}/d(cos {\theta}t), for top-quark-pair production as a function of the top-quark production angle in proton-antiproton collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV. This measurement is performed using data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9.4/fb. We employ the Legendre polynomials to characterize the shape of the differential cross section at the parton level. The observed Legendre coefficients are in good agreement with the prediction of the next-to-leading-order standard-model calculation, with the exception of an excess linear-term coefficient, a1 = 0.40 +- 0.12, compared to the standard-model prediction of a1 = 0.15^{+0.07}_{-0.03}.

Measurement of $K^- p$ radiative capture to $\gamma \Lambda$ and $\gamma \Sigma^0$ for $p_{K^-}$ between 514 and 750 MeV/$c$

Differential cross sections for $K^-$ radiative capture in flight on the proton, leading to the $\gamma\Lambda$ and $\gamma\Sigma^0$ final states, have been measured at eight $K^-$ momenta between 514 and 750 MeV/$c$. The data were obtained with the Crystal Ball multiphoton spectrometer installed at the separated $K/\pi$ beam line C6 of the BNL Alternating Gradient Synchrotron. The results substantially improve the existing experimental data available for studying radiative decays of excited hyperon states. An exploratory theoretical analysis is performed within the Regge-plus-resonance approach. According to this analysis, the $\gamma\Sigma^0$ final state is dominated by hyperonresonance exchange and hints at an important role for a resonance in the mass region of 1700 MeV. In the $\gamma\Lambda$ final state, on the other hand, the resonant contributions account for only half the strength, and the data suggest the importance of a resonance in the mass region of 1550 MeV.

The folded differential cross sections dσdΩ(θ*)+dσdΩ(π−θ*), where θ* is the center-of-mass angle of the negatively charged outgoing particle, have been measured for the reactions p¯p→π−π+ and K−K+ at 15 incident beam momenta between 360 and 760 MeV/c with much better statistics than previous experiments. The total cross sections for these reactions, σπ−π+ and σκ−κ+, have also been obtained by integrating the folded differential cross sections. The folded differential cross sections of both reactions show a similar behavior at all measured beam momenta, characterized by a prominent peak at |cosθ*|=1. The cross section σπ−π+ shows a smooth but rapidly decreasing behavior as the beam momentum increases up to 550 MeV/c, whereas σκ−κ+ shows a smooth and flat momentum dependence. These results are compared with some theoretical calculations based on nonrelativistic quark models. Although the shape of the folded differential cross section of the p¯p→π−π+ reaction is rather well reproduced by these models, that of the p¯p→K−K+ reaction, and, in particular, the prominent peak at |cosθ*|=1 cannot be explained at all. The information from other experiments indicates that this discrepancy is most pronounced at the backward angles. Moreover, the momentum dependence of both σπ−π+ and σκ−κ+ is not satisfactorily reproduced by these models.

Polarization parameters for the π − p → π 0 n charge exchange scattering have been measured at eight beam momenta between 1965 and 4220 MeV/ c using two different experimental set-ups. The angular range covered is −0.90 < cos θ π ∗ < 0.95 at the five momenta of 1965, 2168, 2360, 2566 and 2960 MeV/ c , where θ π ∗ is the emission angle of the π 0 meson in the c.m.s.. For three momenta of 2770, 3490 and 4220 MeV/ c , the measurements cover the forward angles of 0.1 < cos θ π ∗ < 1.0 . The results are compared with the predictions of π N partial wave analyses.

Precision measurements of the analyzing powers for the reaction ppol+p→d+π+ have been made at ≃ 550, 600, 650, 700, and 800 MeV. The data have been analyzed in terms of Legendre polynomials. It is found that excitation functions for both even and odd Legendre coefficients exhibit very similar resonant behaviors. It is concluded that the triplet amplitudes are as strongly dominated by the Δ(1232) as the well-known singlet amplitude, D21, and that the data do not exhibit any anomalous behavior suggestive of dibaryon resonances.

The angular distribution shows a considerably rapid variation with increasing momentum. Legendre polynomial fits of the data are presented.

The angular distributions of the reactions K - p → K - p and K - p → K K 0 n have been measured at 23 incident K - momenta between 1.136 and 1.798 ifGeV/c using the bubble chamber technique. Resonance behaviour is confirmed for the P 03 partial wave at 1890 MeV. The resonance parameters of the F 15 (1915), F 17 (2030) and G 07 (2100) have been redetermined. This paper presents the results of a study of the dominant neutral final states from π−p interactions. The data were obtained in an experiment performed at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Alternating Gradient Synchrotron, using a set of steel-plate optical spark chambers surrounding a liquid-hydrogen target. We present differential and total cross sections for the reactions (1) π−p→n+π0 and (2) π−p→n+η0(η0→2γ) and total cross sections for the reactions (3) π−p→n+kπ0 (k=2, 3, 4, and 5) and (4) π−p→all neutrals for eighteen values of beam momentum in the interval 1.3 to 4.0 GeV/c. The angular distributions for (1) and (2) have been analyzed in terms of expansions in Legendre polynomials, the coefficients for which are also given.
