3 H̃e nuclei were observed in the negative beam, produced by 70 GeV protons on an Al target. Five 3 H̃e have been identified among 2.4 · 10 11 particles that passed through the apparatus. Scintillation and Čerenkov counters were used to measure the electrical charge and velocity of particles. The mass of 3 H̃e is found to be M 3 H ̃ e = (1.00 ± 0.03)3m p , the charge is z = (0.99 ± 0.03)2 e . The ratio of differential production cross sections of 3 H ̃ e (P = 20 GeV /c) and π − (P = 10 GeV/c ) equals 2 · 10 −11 . This corresponds to antihelium −3 production cross section d 2 σ 3 H ̃ e / d Ω d P = 2.0 · 10 −35 cm 2 / sr · GeV /c per Al nuclei and 2.2 · 10 −36 cm 2 sr · GeV/ c per nucleon.

The absorption cross sections of antideuterons with the momentum P = 13.3 GeV/ c by Li, C, Al, Cu and Pb nuclei have been measured. Antiproton stripping of antideuterons has been registered and its cross section for C, Al and Cu has been defined. The binding energy of antideuteron is found to be ε d = 2.4 ± 0.6 MeV by measuring the angular distribution of antiprotons from stripping.

Negative pion charge exchange scattering on protons in the momentum range 20-50 gev/c

Differential cross sections for charge exchange π − p → π 0 n have been measured for momenta up to 50 GeV/ c . The cross section falls as a power of energy. The forward scattering cone shrinks with increasing energy. The cross section for charge exchange at zero angle drops with momentum as P −0.81±0.05 . The charge exchange cross section in the region of the second maximum decrease as P −2.8±0.1 . The ϱ trajectory is described by a linear function α ( t ) = 0.56 + 0.97 t in the interval 0 < − t -<1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

The charge-exchange cross sections were measured for π − on Li, C, Al and Cu nuclei at momentum 48 GeV/ c . By comparing the data obtained for nuclei with those for hydrogen under the same conditions the effective numbers of protons are defined. The conclusion is made that η 0 mesons are absorbed in nuclei weaker then π 0 . The total cross section of η 0 interactions with the nucleon is determined to be σ tot ( η 0 N) = 15 ± 5 mb in agre ement with the quark model.

Lambda and anti-Lambda Production in K+ p Interactions at 32-GeV/c

A study of the inclusive and semi-inclusive Λ and Λ production in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c is presented. The inclusive cross sections for Λ and Λ amount to 0.78 ± 0.05 and 0.42 ± 0.04 mb thus showing a remarkable growth between 16 and 32 GeV/ c with a factor of 1.7 for Λ and 2.8 for Λ . Target and beam fragmentation processes are found to be dominant for Λ and Λ production respectively with the following lower limits for the corresponding cross sections: σ(p → K + ʌ) > 0.5 mb and σ(K + → p ʌ ) > 0.3 mb . Although the early scaling conditions are fulfilled for the Λ production in the target fragmentation region, and Λ production in the beam fragmentation region, scaling is not observed between 16 and 32 GeV/ c in the x and p T 2 Feynman variables. The Λ production is found to be very similar in the K + p inclusive reaction at 32 GeV/ c and in the semi-inclusive reaction K − p → Λ K K X at the same energy. The Λ Λ pair production cross section increases significantly in K + p interactions from 16 to 32 GeV/ c where it reaches the value σ Λ Λ = 47 ± 11 μ b . The cross sections for Λ or Λ produced in association with an identified proton are also given and discussed.

We present results on a number of non-diffractive two-body channels contributing to reactions K + p→K 0 π + p and K + p→K + π − π + p. The data come from an exposure of the Mirabelle bubble chamber to an r.f. separated K + beam of 32 GeV/ c at the Serpukhov accelerator. Total cross sections are given for the final states K ∗+ (890) p , K ∗+ (1420) p , K 0 Δ ++ (1232), K ∗+ (890) p , Δ ++ (1232), K ∗0 (1420) Δ ++ (1232), K ∗0 (1780) Δ ++ (1232) and K ∗0 (890) Δ ++ (1950) . The inclusive production of Ξ + and Ξ − hyperons is investigated in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . The production cross sections, 36.4±9 μ b for the Ξ + and 6.5±3 μ b for the Ξ − , are rising strongly with energy similarly to Λ and Λ production in K + p interactions. The Ξ + are produced preferentially in the forward direction in the c.m.s., while the Ξ − are produced dominantly backwards. The average transverse momenta 〈p T 〉 Ξ + =0.73±0.09 GeV /c and 〈 p T 〉 Ξ − =0.58±0.09 GeV/ c .
