No signal is observed, and upper limits on the cross section $\sigma(e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow J/\psi \eta \pi^{0})$ at the 90\% confidence level are determined to be 3.6, 1.7, 2.4, 1.4, 0.9 and 1.9 pb, respectively.
Results on $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow J/\psi\eta\pi^{0}$. Listed in the table are the integrated luminosity $\cal{L}$, radiative correction factor (1+$\delta^{r}$) taken from QED calculation assuming the $Y(4260)$ cross section follows a Breit$-$Wigner line shape, vacuum polarization factor (1+$\delta^{v}$), average efficiency ($\epsilon^{ee}{\cal B}^{ee}$ + $\epsilon^{\mu\mu}{\cal B}^{\mu\mu}$), number of observed events $N^\text{obs}$, number of estimated background events $N^\text{bkg}$, the efficiency corrected upper limits on the number of signal events $N^\text{up}$, and upper limits on the Born cross section $\sigma^\text{Born}_\text{UL}$ (at the 90 $\%$ C.L.) at each energy point.
Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 3.810 to 4.600 GeV, we perform a study of $e^{+}e^{-} \to \eta J/\psi$ and $\pi^0 J/\psi$. Statistically significant signals of $e^{+}e^{-} \to \eta J/\psi$ are observed at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.190, 4.210, 4.220, 4.230, 4.245, 4.260, 4.360 and 4.420 GeV, while no signals of $e^{+}e^{-} \to \pi^{0} J/\psi$ are observed. The measured energy-dependent Born cross section for $e^{+}e^{-} \to \eta J/\psi$ shows an enhancement around 4.2~GeV. We study the processes e+e- --> K+ K- pi+pi-gamma, K+ K- pi0pi0gamma, and K+ K- K+ K-gamma, where the photon is radiated from the initial state. About 84000, 8000, and 4200 fully reconstructed events, respectively, are selected from 454 fb-1 of BaBar data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the \epem center-of-mass energy, so that the K+ K- pi+pi- data can be compared with direct measurements of the e+e- --> K+ K- pi+pi- reaction. No direct measurements exist for the e+e- --> K+ K-pi0pi0 or e+e- --> K+ K-K+ K- reactions, and we present an update of our previous result with doubled statistics. Studying the structure of these events, we find contributions from a number of intermediate states, and extract their cross sections. In particular, we perform a more detailed study of the e+e- --> phi(1020)pipigamma reaction, and confirm the presence of the Y(2175) resonance in the phi(1020) f0(980) and K+K-f0(980) modes. In the charmonium region, we observe the J/psi in all three final states and in several intermediate states, as well as the psi(2S) in some modes, and measure the corresponding product of branching fraction and electron width.

The dissociation of virtual photons, $\gamma^{\star} p \to X p$, in events with a large rapidity gap between $X$ and the outgoing proton, as well as in events in which the leading proton was directly measured, has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities $Q^2>2$ GeV$^2$ and $\gamma^{\star} p$ centre-of-mass energies $40<W<240$ GeV, with $M_X>2$ GeV, where $M_X$ is the mass of the hadronic final state, $X$. Leading protons were detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer. The cross section is presented as a function of $t$, the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex and $\Phi$, the azimuthal angle between the positron scattering plane and the proton scattering plane. It is also shown as a function of $Q^2$ and $\xpom$, the fraction of the proton's momentum carried by the diffractive exchange, as well as $\beta$, the Bjorken variable defined with respect to the diffractive exchange.

This paper reports measurements of processes: e+e- -> gamma KsK+pi-, e+e- -> gamma K+K-pi0, e+e- -> gamma phi eta, and e+e- -> gamma phi pi0. The initial state radiated photon allows to cover the hadronic final state in the energy range from thresholds up to ~4.6 GeV. The overall size of the data sample analyzed is 232 fb-1, collected by the BaBar detector running at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring. From the Dalitz plot analysis of the KsK+pi- final state, moduli and relative phase of the isoscalar and the isovector components of the e+e- -> K K*(892) cross section are determined. Parameters of phi and rho recurrences are also measured, using a global fitting procedure which exploits the interconnection among amplitudes, moduli and phases of the e+e- -> KsK+pi-, K+K-pi0, phi eta final states. The cross section for the OZI-forbidden process e+e- -> phi pi0, and the J/psi branching fractions to KK*(892) and K+K-eta are also measured.

We present a measurement of the cross section of the process $e^+e^-\to\pi^+pi^-\psi(2S)$ from threshold up to 8 GeV center-of-mass energy using events containing initial-state radiation, produced at the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ storage rings. The study is based on 298 fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded with the BaBar detector. A structure is observed in the cross-section not far above threshold, near 4.32 GeV. We also investigate the compatibility of this structure with the Y(4260) previously reported by this experiment.

We study the processes $e^+ e^-\to K^+ K^- \pi^+\pi^-\gamma$, $K^+K^-\pi^0\pi^0\gamma$ and $K^+ K^- K^+ K^-\gamma$, where the photon is radiated from the initial state. About 34600, 4400 and 2300 fully reconstructed events, respectively, are selected from 232 \invfb of \babar data. The invariant mass of the hadronic final state defines the effective \epem center-of-mass energy, so that the $K^+ K^- \pi^+\pi^-\gamma$ data can be compared with direct measurements of the $e^+ e^-\to K^+K^- \pipi$ reaction/ no direct measurements exist for the $e^+ e^-\to K^+ K^- \pi^0\pi^0$ or $\epem\to K^+ K^- K^+ K^-$ reactions. Studying the structure of these events, we find contributions from a number of intermediate states, and we extract their cross sections where possible. In particular, we isolate the contribution from $e^+ e^-\to\phi(1020) f_{0}(980)$ and study its structure near threshold. In the charmonium region, we observe the $J/\psi$ in all three final states and several intermediate states, as well as the $\psi(2S)$ in some modes, and measure the corresponding branching fractions. We see no signal for the Y(4260) and obtain an upper limit of $\BR_{Y(4260)\to\phi\pi^+\pi^-}\cdot\Gamma^{Y}_{ee}<0.4 \ev$ at 90% C.L.

Evidence of anomalous WW and WZ production was sought in pbar{p} collisions at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The final states $WW (WZ) to mu-nu-jet-jet + X, WZ to mu-nu-e-e + X and WZ to e-nu-e-e + X were studied using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of approximately 90 pb-1. No evidence of anomalous diboson production was found. Limits were set on anomalous WWgamma and WWZ couplings and were combined with our previous results. The combined 95% confidence level anomalous coupling limits for Lambda=2 TeV are -0.25 LE Delta-kappa LE 0.39 (lambda=0) and -0.18 LE lambda LE 0.19 (Delta \kappa = 0), assuming the WWgamma couplings are equal to the WWZ couplings.

We describe a search for the pair production of first-generation scalar and vector leptoquarks in the eejj and enujj channels by the D0 Collaboration. The data are from the 1992--1996 ppbar run at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We find no evidence for leptoquark production; in addition, no kinematically interesting events are observed using relaxed selection criteria. The results from the eejj and enujj channels are combined with those from a previous D0 analysis of the nunujj channel to obtain 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the leptoquark pair-production cross section as a function of mass and of beta, the branching fraction to a charged lepton. These limits are compared to next-to-leading-order theory to set 95% C.L. lower limits on the mass of a first-generation scalar leptoquark of 225, 204, and 79 GeV/c^2 for beta=1, 1/2, and 0, respectively. For vector leptoquarks with gauge (Yang-Mills) couplings, 95% C.L. lower limits of 345, 337, and 206 GeV/c^2 are set on the mass for beta=1, 1/2, and 0, respectively. Mass limits for vector leptoquarks are also set for anomalous vector couplings.

Bottom quark production in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV is studied with 5 inverse picobarns of data collected in 1995 by the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The differential production cross section for b jets in the central rapidity region (|y(b)| < 1) as a function of jet transverse energy is extracted from a muon-tagged jet sample. Within experimental and theoretical uncertainties, DO results are found to be higher than, but compatible with, next-to-leading-order QCD predictions.

We have searched for second generation leptoquark (LQ) pairs in the \mu\mu+jets channel using 94+-5 pb^{-1} of pbar-p collider data collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron during 1993-1996. No evidence for a signal is observed. These results are combined with those from the \mu\nu+jets and \nu\nu+jets channels to obtain 95% confidence level (C.L.) upper limits on the LQ pair production cross section as a function of mass and $beta, the branching fraction of a LQ decay into a charged lepton and a quark. Lower limits of 200(180) GeV/c^2 for \beta=1(1/2) are set at the 95% C.L. on the mass of scalar LQ. Mass limits are also set on vector leptoquarks as a function of \beta.

The isoscalar structure functions $xF_3$ and $F_2$ are measured as functions of $x$ averaged over all $Q^2$ permissible for the range of 6 to 28 GeV of incident neutrino (anti-neutrino) energy at the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector. The QCD analysis of $xF_3$ structure function provides $\Lambda_{\bar{MS}}^{(4)} = (411 \pm 200)$ MeV under the assumption of QCD validity in the region of low $Q^2$. The corresponding value of the strong interaction constant $\alpha_S (M_Z) = 0.123^{+0.010}_{-0.013}$ agrees with the recent result of the CCFR collaboration and with the combined LEP/SLC result.

This Letter describes a measurement of the muon cross section originating from b quark decay in the forward rapidity range 2.4 < y(mu) < 3.2 in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The data used in this analysis were collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. We find that NLO QCD calculations underestimate b quark production by a factor of four in the forward rapidity region. A cross section measurement using muon+jet data has been included in this version of the paper.

We present measurements of the b-bbar production cross section and angular correlations using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p-pbar Collider operating at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The b quark production cross section for |y(b)|<1.0 and p_T(b)>6 GeV/c is extracted from single muon and dimuon data samples. The results agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD calculation of heavy flavor production but are greater than the central values of these predictions. The angular correlations between b and bbar quarks, measured from the azimuthal opening angle between their decay muons, also agree in shape with the next-to-leading order QCD prediction.

We have made a precise measurement of the central inclusive jet cross section at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV. The measurement is based on an integrated luminosity of 92 pb-1 collected at the Fermilab Tevatron pbar-p Collider with the D-Zero detector. The cross section, reported as a function of jet transverse energy (ET >= 60 GeV) in the pseudorapidity interval |eta| <= 0.5, is in good agreement with predictions from next-to-leading order quantum chromodynamics.

This paper presents the first measurement of the inclusive J/Psi production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5<|eta|<3.7 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/Psi cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production.

Using the DZero detector at the 1.8 TeV pbarp Fermilab Tevatron collider, we have measured the inclusive dijet mass spectrum in the central pseudorapidity region |eta_jet| < 1.0 for dijet masses greater than 200 Gev/c^2. We have also measured the ratio of spectra sigma(|eta_jet| < 0.5)/sigma(0.5 < |eta_jet| < 1.0). The isoscalar structure functions xF_3 and F_2 are measured as functions of x averaged over all Q~2 permissible for the range 6 to 28 GeV of incident (anti)neutrino energy. With the measured values of xF_3, the value of the Gross-Llewellyn Smith sum rule is found to be $\int_{0}~{1}{F_3 dx} = 2.13\pm0.38 (stat)\pm 0.26 (syst)$. The QCD analysis of xF_3 provides $\Lambda_{\overline{MS}} =358 \pm 59 MeV$ . The obtained value of the strong interaction constant $\alpha_S (M_Z)=0.120~{+3}_{-4}$ is larger than most of the deep inelastic scattering results.
The value of F2 is extracted with R = 0. The difference F2(C=R=.1)-F2(C=R=0.) is also presented.
Measurements of the forward-angle differential cross section for elastic electron-proton scattering were made in the range of momentum transfer from Q2=2.9 to 31.3 (GeV/c)2 using an electron beam at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The data span six orders of magnitude in cross section. Combinded statistical and systematic uncertainties in the cross section measurements ranged from 3.6% at low Q2 to 19% at high Q2. These data have been used to extract the proton magnetic form factor GMp(Q2) and Dirac form factor F1p(Q2) by using form factor scaling. The logarithmic falloff of Q4F1p expected from leading twist predictions of perturbative quantum chromodynamics is consistent with the new data at high Q2. Some nonperturbative and hybrid calculations also agree with our results.

The results of total cross section measurements for theνμ,\(\bar \nu _\mu\) interactions with isoscalar target in the 3 – 30 GeV energy range have been presented. The data were obtained with the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector in the “natural” neutrino beams of the U-70 accelerator. Neutrino fluxes were obtained by averaging the spectra, based on the calculations with the use of the experimental data on secondary particle yields from the target and muon fluxes measurements in 9 gaps of the muon filter, as well as the spectra determined from quasi-elastic events and spectra defined by extrapolating differential distributiondσ/dy in the regiony=0. The significant deviation from the linear dependence forσtot versus neutrino energy is determined in the energy range less than 15 GeV.

Cross sections for deep-inelastic electron scattering from liquid deuterium, gaseous He4, and solid Be, C, Al, Ca, Fe, Ag, and Au targets were measured at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center using electrons with energies ranging from 8 to 24.5 GeV. These data cover a range in the Bjorken variable x from 0.089 to 0.8, and in momentum transfer Q2 from 2 to 15 (GeV/c)2. The ratios of cross sections per nucleon (σAσd)is for isoscalar nuclei have been extracted from the data. These ratios are greater than unity in the range 0.1<x<0.3, while for 0.3<x<0.8 they are less than unity and decrease logarithmically with atomic weight A, or linearly with average nuclear density. No Q2 dependence in the ratios was observed over the kinematic range of the data. These results are compared to various theoretical predictions.

The experimental results are presented for ratios of ν-meson inclusive differential cross sections in 10.5 GeV/ c π + p, π + D and π + A collisions, R D/p =(d σ /d x F )( π + D → η X)/ (d σ /d x F ) π + p→ η X), R A =(d σ /d x F )( π + D→ η X) in the beam fragmentation region. The results are based on the statistics of ≈ 5 × 10 4 detected η → 2 γ decays. It is shown that the power α in the parametrisation R A ≈ A α ( xf ) does not change significantly with x F and its mean value is 0.50±0.02. The lower limit is obtained for the effective coefficient with string tension in the colour string model, κ ⩾ 3 GeV/fm. The observed growth of R A with x F can be explained by an assumption of a neutron halo with the factor H ≈ 4 in the nuclei.

We have performed absolute measurements of the differential cross section for elastic e−p scattering in the range of momentum transfer from Q2=2.9 to 31.3 (GeV/c)2. Combined statistical and systematic uncertainties in the cross-section measurements ranged from 3% at low Q2 to 19% at high Q2. These data have been used to extract the proton magnetic form factor GMp(Q2). The results show a smooth decrease of Q4GMp with momentum transfer above Q2=10 (GeV/c)2. We present results on the experimental study of inelastic charged-current antineutrino-nucleon scattering in the energy range of 10–200 GeV. The data sample, consisting of about 6500 antineutrino-induced events, was obtained in the Fermilab 15 ft bubble chamber filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mixture. The differential cross sections for ν μ N interactions are presented in terms of scaling variables x and y . The structure functions F 2 ν and xF 3 ν have been evaluated as functions of x and E ν . A deviation from the scaling hypothesis, similar to those found in other experiments on inelastic lepton-nucleon scattering, has been observed. The data are interpreted in the framework of the quark-parton model. Quark and antiquark distributions and their energy dependences are presented.

We have studied transverse momenta of charged hadrons in the current fragmentation region of charged current antineutrino- nucleon interactions observed in the Fermilab 15 ft bubble chamber. The measured momentum squared transverse to the v μ + plane (p out 2 ) of the negative hadrons varies as a function of Q 2 , W 2 and x as expected from t he leading order perturbative QCD calculations. Positively charged hadrons show a different transverse momentum behaviour as a function of Q 2 .

The results of a study of strange particle production in charged current $\bar{\nu}_{\mu} N$ interactions in the Fermilab 15 ft bubble chamber filled with a heavy $Ne-H_2$ mixture are presented. Production rates and average multiplicities of $K^0$'s and Λ's as functions of W 2 and Q 2 are given. The experimental data agree well with the quark-parton model predictions if a yield of 0.06 ± 0.02 of $K^0$'s and Λ's from charm production is included. Upper limits for D-meson production are given and the shape of the charmed quark fragmentation function is discussed. Inclusive production of the K ∗ (890) and Σ(1385) resonances is measured and it is shown that only about 5% of the K 0 mesons and Λ hyperons results from resonance decays. Relative production rates of neutral strange particles on proton and neutron targets are studied.

From a muon-proton scattering experiment with a streamer chamber at the Stanford Linear Accelerator we present results in the ranges 0.3<Q2<4.7 GeV2 and 1.7<W<4.7 GeV for the reactions μ+p→μpV where V is a vector meson (ρ0, ω, or φ). It is shown that in ρ production the skewing parameter and the longitudinal-transverse ratio change significantly as Q2 increases above 1 GeV2. The cross section for ρ0 production as a function of Q2 falls below the vector-meson-dominance prediction. The ratio of the cross section for exclusive vector-meson production to the total cross section falls by a factor of 10 between photoproduction and a Q2 of 2 GeV2, yet the ratio of ω to ρ production remains constant at the photoproduction value out to Q2>2 GeV2.
