A total of 22 muon-neutrino-electron elastic-scattering events (νμe→νμe) have been observed in an exposure of the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mixture to a wide-band neutrino beam. The elastic-scattering cross section is measured to be 1.67±0.44×10−42Eν cm2 GeV−1. The value of the weak mixing angle (sin2θW) determined from this cross section, which is consistent with other measurements of this angle, is 0.20−0.05+0.06.

The quasielastic reaction νμn→μ−p was studied in an experiment using the BNL 7-foot deuterium bubble chamber exposed to the wide-band neutrino beam with an average energy of 1.6 GeV. A total of 1138 quasielastic events in the momentum-transfer range Q2=0.06−3.00 (GeV/c)2 were selected by kinematic fitting and particle identification and were used to extract the axial-vector form factor FA(Q2) from the Q2 distribution. In the framework of the conventional V−A theory, we find that the dipole parametrization is favored over the monopole. The value of the axial-vector mass MA in the dipole parametrization is 1.07±0.06 GeV, which is in good agreement with both recent neutrino and electroproduction experiments. In addition, the standard assumptions of conserved vector current and no second-class currents are checked.

The total cross sections for νμn and νμp charged-current interactions and their ratio R=σT(νn)σT(νp) have been measured as a function of neutrino energy from 0.4 to 10 GeV. The experiment is performed using the BNL 7-foot deuterium bubble chamber exposed to the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron wide-band neutrino beam. The absolute values of the cross sections are normalized to the quasielastic scattering (νμn→μ−p) cross section. Above 1.6 GeV the data are consistent with the quark-parton model. We find that σT(νn)Eν=(1.07±0.05)×10−38, σT(νp)Eν=(0.54±0.04)×10−38, and σT(νN)Eν=(0.80±0.03)×10−38 cm2/GeV for 〈Eν〉=3.2 GeV, and R=1.95±0.10 for 〈Eν〉=3.7 GeV.

The Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber, filled with a heavy neon-hydrogen mix, was exposed to a narrow-band νμ beam. Based on the observation of 830 charged-current νμ interactions, the cross section was found consistent with a linear rise with the neutrino energy in the interval 10 GeV<~Eν≲240 GeV. The average slope was determined to be σνEν=(0.62±0.05)×10−38 cm2 GeV−1.

The production of μ−e+ dileptons by muon neutrinos is studied in a high-statistics bubble-chamber experiment. The experiment consisted of exposing the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber filled with a heavy Ne-H2 mix to a wideband neutrino beam. In a total sample of 146 700±11 700 charged-current interactions, 461 events with an e+(Pe+>300 MeV/c) and a μ− are observed. The rate for μ−e+ dilepton production in measured to be (0.42±0.06)%. The energy dependence of this rate is presented. The kinematic distributions for the μ−e+ events are consistent with charm production and subsequent semileptonic decay. A total of 60 KS0 and 31 Λ0 decays were observed in the μ−e+ event sample. The measured rates for neutral-strange-particle production are 0.78±0.12 K0K¯0's and 0.19±0.04 Λ0's per μ−e+ event. Finally, rates for Λc+, D0, and D+ production in charged-current νμ interactions are derived. They are found to be (4−2+10)%, (1.7−0.7+0.5)%, and (1.3−0.5+0.4)%, respectively.

Distributions of the Bjorken scaling variables x and y, and the structure function F+(x), are presented both for neutral-current and for charged-current νμ interactions. The data were obtained by use of the Fermilab 15-ft neon bubble chamber exposed to a narrow-band νμ beam. Results are based on 151 neutral-current and 683 charged-current events. An important feature of the neutral-current analysis is the event-by-event reconstruction of the outgoing neutrino.

We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in $\approx 90$ $pb^{-1}$ of data collected with the DZero detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. Results are given from a study of 15 518 events of the reaction K + d → K + π − pp. The K + π − spin density matrix and the constraints imposed on it by positivity have been studied. Analyses of K + π − → K + π − elastic scattering have been carried out using methods developed by Estabrooks and Martin and Ochs and Wagner for the analogous case of ππ scattering. Results are found to be in agreement with earlier K π scattering studies using the reaction K + p → K + π − Δ ++ at much higher energies. The S-wave scattering length is found to be in agreement with the prediction of current algebra.

Deep inelastic electron-photon scattering is studied using e+e- data collected by the OPAL detector at centre-of-mass energies sqrt{s_ee} ~ M_{Z^0}. The photon structure function F_2^gamma(x,Q^2) is explored in a Q^2 range of 1.1 to 6.6 GeV/c^2 at lower x values than ever before. To probe this kinematic region events are selected with a beam electron scattered into one of the OPAL luminosity calorimeters at scattering angles between 27 and 55 mrad. The DO collaboration reports on a search for the Standard Model top quark in pbar-p collisions at Sqrt(s)=1.8TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron, with an integrated luminosity of approximately 50pb-1. We have searched for t-tbar production in the dilepton and single-lepton decay channels, with and without tagging of b-quark jets. We observed 17 events with an expected background of 3.8+/-0.6 events. The probability for an upward fluctuation of the background to produce the observed signal is 2.0E-6 (equivalent to 4.6 standard deviations). The kinematic properties of the excess events are consistent with top quark decay. We conclude that we have observed the top quark and measure its mass to be 199~+19_21 (stat.)+/- 22 (syst.)GeV/c**2 and its production cross section to be 6.4 +/- 2.2 pb.

Results from K± elastic and inelastic scattering from C12 and Ca40 are reported. The data were all taken at an incident momentum of 800 MeV/c over an angular range from 2° to 38°. The elastic data are compared to first-order optical model calculations in coordinate and momentum space; good qualitative agreement is obtained. The inelastic data (from C12 only) are compared to distorted-wave Born approximation calculations, and good agreement is found if "realistic" inelastic transition densities are used. Although a first-order optical potential description does not describe the data fully, there are strong indications of the increased penetrability of K+ over K− in this energy range. We have measured differential cross sections for the elastic scattering of charged pions from H3 and He3 into the backward hemisphere. Near the peak of the delta resonance, at Tπ=180 MeV, an angular distribution covering 114° to 168° in the laboratory extends our earlier measurements. At Tπ=142, 180, 220, and 256 MeV, we have measured an excitation function at angles approaching 170°. The cross sections for the reactions He3(π+,π+)3He, H3(π−,π−)3H show a rise at back angles which is not seen for He3(π−,π−)3He and H3(π+,π+)3H. This paper presents DELPHI measurements and interpretations of cross-sections, forward-backward asymmetries, and angular distributions, for the e+e- -> ffbar process for centre-of-mass energies above the Z resonance, from sqrt(s) ~ 130 - 207 GeV at the LEP collider. The measurements are consistent with the predictions of the Standard Model and are used to study a variety of models including the S-Matrix ansatz for e+e- -> ffbar scattering and several models which include physics beyond the Standard Model: the exchange of Z' bosons, contact interactions between fermions, the exchange of gravitons in large extra dimensions and the exchange of sneutrino in R-parity violating supersymmetry.

Longitudinal and transverse momentum spectra of final state hadrons produced in deep-inelastic muon-deuterium scattering at incident muon energy of 490 GeV have been measured up to a hadronic center of mass energy of 30 GeV. The longitudinal distributions agree well with data from earlier muon-nucleon scattering experiments; these distributions tend to increase in steepness as the center of mass energy increases. Comparisons with e + e − data at comparable center of mass energies indicate slight differences. The transverse momentum distributions show an increase in mean p T 2 with an increase in the center of mass energy.

Hard hadronic scattering was studied by selecting 150 GeV and 300 GeV π − p and pp events with large energy in a 240 cell calorimeter covering 45† to 135† in the c.m.s. polar angle and the full 2 π azimuth. A downstream calorimeter measured the remaining energy flow at smaller angles. For large energy deposited in the segmented calorimeter the proton induced cross section drops below the pion induced cross section, as expected in a constituent scattering picture. However, neither a simple energy scaling of the cross section nor a dominant jet structure of the events is observed. No evidence was found for recently proposed higher-twist mechanisms leading to events

The production of $W^{\pm}Z$ events in proton--proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The collected data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb$^{-1}$. The $W^{\pm}Z$ candidates are reconstructed using leptonic decays of the gauge bosons into electrons or muons. The measured inclusive cross section in the detector fiducial region for leptonic decay modes is $\sigma_{W^\pm Z \rightarrow \ell^{'} \nu \ell \ell}^{\textrm{fid.}} = 63.2 \pm 3.2$ (stat.) $\pm 2.6$ (sys.) $\pm 1.5$ (lumi.) fb. In comparison, the next-to-leading-order Standard Model prediction is $53.4^{+3.6}_{-2.8}$ fb. The extrapolation of the measurement from the fiducial to the total phase space yields $\sigma_{W^{\pm}Z}^{\textrm{tot.}} = 50.6 \pm 2.6$ (stat.) $\pm 2.0$ (sys.) $\pm 0.9$ (th.) $\pm 1.2$ (lumi.) pb, in agreement with a recent next-to-next-to-leading-order calculation of $48.2^{+1.1}_{-1.0}$ pb. The cross section as a function of jet multiplicity is also measured, together with the charge-dependent $W^+Z$ and $W^-Z$ cross sections and their ratio.

Measurements of the cross section and forward-backward asymmetry for the reaction e + e − → μ + μ − using the DELPHI detector at LEP are presented. The data come from a scan around the Z 0 peak at seven centre of mass energies, giving a sample of 3858 events in the polar angle region 22° < θ < 158°. From a fit to the cross section for 43° < θ < 137°, a polar angle region for which the absolute efficiency has been determined, the square root of the product of the Z 0 → e + e − and Z 0 → μ + μ − partial widths is determined to be (Γ e Γ μ ) 1 2 = 85.0 ± 0.9( stat. ) ± 0.8( syst. ) MeV . From this measurement of the partial width, the value of the effective weak mixing angle is determined to be sin 2 ( θ w ) = 0.2267 ± 0.0037 . The ratio of the hadronic to muon pair partial widths is found to be Γ h / Γ μ = 19.89 ± 0.40(stat.) ± 0.19(syst.). The forward-backward asymmetry at the resonance peak energy E CMS = 91.22 GeV is found to be A FB = 0.028 ± 0.020(stat.) ± 0.005(syst.). From a combined fit to the cross section and forward-backward asymmetry data, the products of the electron and muon vector and axial-vector coupling constants are determined to be V e V μ = 0.0024 ± 0.0015(stat.) ± 0.0004(syst.) and A e A μ = 0.253 ± 0.003(stat.) ± 0.003 (syst.). Muon pair production in the process e+e- -> e+e-mu+mu- is studied using the data taken at LEP1 (sqrt(s) \simeq m_Z) with the DELPHI detector during the years 1992-1995. The corresponding integrated luminosity is 138.5 pb^{-1}. The QED predictions have been tested over the whole Q^2 range accessible at LEP1 (from several GeV^2/c^4 to several hundred GeV^2/c^4) by comparing experimental distributions with distributions resulting from Monte Carlo simulations using various generators. Selected events are used to extract the leptonic photon structure function F_2^\gamma. Azimuthal correlations are used to obtain information on additional structure functions, F_A^\gamma and F_B^\gamma, which originate from interference terms of the scattering amplitudes. The measured ratios F_A^\gamma/F_2^\gamma and F_B^\gamma/F_2^\gamma are significantly different from zero and consistent with QED predictions.

Deep inelastic electron-photon scattering is studied in the Q2 ranges from 6 to 30 GeV2 and from 60 to 400 GeV2 using the full sample of LEP data taken with the OPAL detector at centre-of-mass energies close to the Z0 mass, with an integrated luminosity of 156.4 pb−1. Energy flow distributions and other properties of the measured hadronic final state are compared with the predictions of Monte Carlo models, including HERWIG and PYTHIA. Sizeable differences are found between the data and the models, especially at low values of the scaling variable x. New measurements are presented of the photon structure function $F_2^{αmma }(x,Q^2)$, allowing for the first time for uncertainties in the description of the final state by different Monte Carlo models. The differences between the data and the models contribute significantly to the systematic errors on $F_2^{αmma }$. Twenty-nine proton-proton differential elastic cross sections for lab momenta p0 from 11 to 31.8 BeV/c, at four-momentum transfers squared, −t, from 2.3 to 24.4 (BeV/c)2, have been measured at the Brookhaven alternating gradient synchrotron. The circulating proton beam impinged upon a thin CH2 internal target. Both scattered protons from p−p elastic events were detected by scintillation-counter telescopes which were placed downstream from deflection magnets set at the appropriate angles to the incident beam. The angular correlation of the protons, their momenta, and the coplanarity of the events were determined by the detection system. The results show that at high momentum transfers the differential cross section, dσdt, depends strongly upon the energy; for −t=10 (BeV/c)2, the value of dσdt at p0=30 BeV/c is smaller by a factor∼1000 than at p0=10 BeV/c. At all energies, dσdt falls rapidly with increasing |t| for scattering angles up to about 65° (c.m.), while in the range from 65 to 90° the cross section falls only by a factor of about 2. The smallest cross section measured was 9×10−37 cm2 sr−1 (c.m.), at p0=31.8 BeV/c and −t=20.4 (BeV/c)2; this is about 3×10−12 of the zero-degree cross section at the same energy.

In a special run of the LHC with $\beta^\star = 2.5~$km, proton-proton elastic-scattering events were recorded at $\sqrt{s} = 13~$TeV with an integrated luminosity of $340~\mu \textrm{b}^{-1}$ using the ALFA subdetector of ATLAS in 2016. The elastic cross section was measured differentially in the Mandelstam $t$ variable in the range from $-t = 2.5 \cdot 10^{-4}~$GeV$^{2}$ to $-t = 0.46~$GeV$^{2}$ using 6.9 million elastic-scattering candidates. This paper presents measurements of the total cross section $\sigma_{\textrm{tot}}$, parameters of the nuclear slope, and the $\rho$-parameter defined as the ratio of the real part to the imaginary part of the elastic-scattering amplitude in the limit $t \rightarrow 0$. These parameters are determined from a fit to the differential elastic cross section using the optical theorem and different parameterizations of the $t$-dependence. The results for $\sigma_{\textrm{tot}}$ and $\rho$ are \begin{equation*} \sigma_{\textrm{tot}}(pp\rightarrow X) = \mbox{104.7} \pm 1.1 \; \mbox{mb} , \; \; \; \rho = \mbox{0.098} \pm 0.011 . \end{equation*} The uncertainty in $\sigma_{\textrm{tot}}$ is dominated by the luminosity measurement, and in $\rho$ by imperfect knowledge of the detector alignment and by modelling of the nuclear amplitude.

The differential cross sections for the process $\gamma \gamma \to \pi^0 \pi^0$ have been measured in the kinematic range 0.6 GeV $< W < 4.1$ GeV, $|\cos \theta^*|<0.8$ in energy and pion scattering angle, respectively, in the $\gamma\gamma$ center-of-mass system. The results are based on a 223 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB $e^+ e^-$ collider. The differential cross sections are fitted in the energy region 1.7 GeV $< W <$ 2.5 GeV to confirm the two-photon production of two pions in the G wave. In the higher energy region, we observe production of the $\chi_{c0}$ charmonium state and obtain the product of its two-photon decay width and branching fraction to $\pi^0\pi^0$. We also compare the observed angular dependence and ratios of cross sections for neutral-pion and charged-pion pair production to QCD models. The energy and angular dependence above 3.1 GeV are compatible with those measured in the $\pi^+\pi^-$ channel, and in addition we find that the cross section ratio, $\sigma(\pi^0\pi^0)/\sigma(\pi^+\pi^-)$, is $0.32 \pm 0.03 \pm 0.05$ on average in the 3.1-4.1 GeV region.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering has been measured at 100 GeV/c for 0.5<−t<2.5 (GeV/c)2 and at 200 GeV/c for 0.9<−t<4 (GeV/c)2. The data show that the −t≃1.4 (GeV/c)2 dip recently observed at 50 GeV/c persists to higher incident momenta. Proton-proton measurements made at the same beam momenta show similar structure.
CLEAR DIP OBSERVED AT -T=1.4 (GEV/C)**2.
Nuclear transparencies measured in exclusive incoherent ρ0 meson production from hydrogen, deuterium, carbon, calcium, and lead in muon-nucleus scattering are reported. The data were obtained with the E665 spectrometer using the Fermilab Tevatron muon beam with a mean beam energy of 470 GeV. Increases in the nuclear transparencies are observed as the virtuality of the photon increases, in qualitative agreement with the expectations of color transparency.

Inelastic scattering of 490 GeV μ + from deuterium and xenon nuclei has been studied for x Bj > s .001. The ratio of the xenon/deuterium cross section per nucleon is observed to vary with x Bj , with a depletion in the kinematic range 0.001 < x Bj < 0.025 which exhibits no significant Q 2 dependence. An electromagnetic calorimeter was used to verify the radiative corrections.

Recently, the PHENIX Collaboration has published second- and third-harmonic Fourier coefficients $v_2$ and $v_3$ for midrapidity ($|\eta|<0.35$) charged hadrons in 0%--5% central $p$$+$Au, $d$ $+$Au, and $^3$He$+$Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{_{NN}}}=200$ GeV utilizing three sets of two-particle correlations for two detector combinations with different pseudorapidity acceptance [Phys. Rev. C {\bf 105}, 024901 (2022)]. This paper extends these measurements of $v_2$ to all centralities in $p$ $+$Au, $d$ $+$Au, and $^3$He$+$Au collisions, as well as $p$$+$$p$ collisions, as a function of transverse momentum ($p_T$) and event multiplicity. The kinematic dependence of $v_2$ is quantified as the ratio $R$ of $v_2$ between the two detector combinations as a function of event multiplicity for $0.5$ $<$ $p_T$ $<$ $1$ and $2$ $<$ $p_T$ $<$ $2.5$ GeV/$c$. A multiphase-transport (AMPT) model can reproduce the observed $v_2$ in most-central to midcentral $d$$+$Au and $^3$He$+$Au collisions. However, the AMPT model systematically overestimates the measurements in $p$ $+$ $p$, $p$ $+$Au, and peripheral $d$$+$Au and $^3$He$+$Au collisions, indicating a higher nonflow contribution in AMPT than in the experimental data. The AMPT model fails to describe the observed $R$ for $0.5$ $<$ $p_T$$<$ $1$ GeV/$c$, but there is qualitative agreement with the measurements for $2$ $<$ $p_T$ $<$ $2.5$ GeV/$c$.

Fermilab Experiment-665 measured deep-inelastic scattering of 490 GeV muons off deuterium and xenon targets. Events were selected with a range of energy exchange ν from 100 GeV to 500 GeV and with large ranges of Q2 and xBj: 0.1 GeV2/c2<Q2<150 GeV2/c2 and 0.001<xBj<0.5. The fractional energy (z) distributions of forward-produced hadrons from the two targets have been compared as a function of the kinematics of the scattering; specifically, the kinematic region of ‘‘shadowing’’ has been compared to that of nonshadowing. The dependence of the distributions upon the order of the hadrons, determined by the fractional energies, has been examined as well; a strong degree of similarity has been observed in the shapes of the distributions of the different order hadrons. These z distributions, however, show no nuclear dependence, even in the kinematic region of shadowing.

A search for charginos and neutralinos at the Large Hadron Collider is reported using fully hadronic final states and missing transverse momentum. Pair-produced charginos or neutralinos are explored, each decaying into a high-$p_{\text{T}}$ Standard Model weak boson. Fully-hadronic final states are studied to exploit the advantage of the large branching ratio, and the efficient background rejection by identifying the high-$p_{\text{T}}$ bosons using large-radius jets and jet substructure information. An integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV is used. No significant excess is found beyond the Standard Model expectation. The 95% confidence level exclusion limits are set on wino or higgsino production with varying assumptions in the decay branching ratios and the type of the lightest supersymmetric particle. A wino (higgsino) mass up to 1060 (900) GeV is excluded when the lightest SUSY particle mass is below 400 (240) GeV and the mass splitting is larger than 400 (450) GeV. The sensitivity to high-mass wino and higgsino is significantly extended compared with the previous LHC searches using the other final states.
Cut flows of some representative signals up to SR-4Q-VV, SR-2B2Q-VZ, and SR-2B2Q-Vh. One signal point from the $(\tilde{W},~\tilde{B})$ simplified models (C1C1-WW, C1N2-WZ, and C1N2-Wh) and $(\tilde{H},~\tilde{G})$ is chosen. The "preliminary event reduction" is a technical selection applied for reducing the sample size, which is fully efficient after the $n_{\textrm{Large}-R~\textrm{jets}}\geq 2$ selection.
The boson-tagging efficiency for jets arising from $W/Z$ bosons decaying into $q\bar{q}$ (signal jets) are shown. The signal jet efficiency of $W_{qq}$/$Z_{qq}$-tagging is evaluated using a sample of pre-selected large-$R$ jets ($p_{\textrm{T}}>200~\textrm{GeV}, |\eta|<2.0, m_{J} > 40~\textrm{GeV}$) in the simulated $(\tilde{W},\tilde{B})$ simplified model signal events with $\Delta m (\tilde{\chi}_{\textrm{heavy}},~\tilde{\chi}_{\textrm{light}}) \ge 400~\textrm{GeV}$. The jets are matched with generator-level $W/Z$-bosons by $\Delta R<1.0$ which decay into $q\bar{q}$. The efficiency correction factors are applied on the signal efficiency rejection for the $W_{qq}$/$Z_{qq}$-tagging. The systematic uncertainty is represented by the hashed bands.
The rejection factor (inverse of the efficiency) for jets that have the other origins (background jets) are shown. The background jet rejection factor is calculated using pre-selected large-$R$ jets in the sample of simulated $Z\rightarrow\nu\nu$ + jets events, dominated by initial state radiation (ISR) jets. The efficiency correction factors are applied on the background rejection for the $W_{qq}$/$Z_{qq}$-tagging. The systematic uncertainty is represented by the hashed bands.
Data are presented on elastic πp and Kp scattering for values of −t up to 2.5 and 3.5 (GeV/c)2 at incident momenta of 100 and 200 GeV/c, respectively. All of the cross sections are found to be nearly identical, although there is some momentum dependence of the π+p data; a small systematic difference observed between pion and kaon data cannot be explained by geometrical scaling.

We detected 1–10 MeV neutrons at laboratory angles from 80° to 140° in coincidence with 470 GeV muons deep inelastically scattered from H, D, C, Ca, and Pb targets. The neutron energy spectrum for Pb can be fitted with two components with temperature parameters of 0.7 and 5.0 MeV. The average neutron multiplicity for 40<ν<400 GeV is about 5 for Pb, and less than 2 for Ca and C. These data are consistent with a process in which the emitted hadrons do not interact with the rest of the nucleus within distances smaller than the radius of Ca, but do interact within distances on the order of the radius of Pb in the measured kinematic range. For all targets the lack of high nuclear excitation is surprising.
The energy spectrum for neutrons emitted from a thermalized nucleus may be expressed as a multiplicity per unit energy d(M)/d(E)=(M/T**2)*E*exp(-E/T) in which E is the neutron energy, M is the total multiplicity (isotropic in the nuclear frame), and T is the nuclear temperature. A fit by the sum of two exponentials.
Inclusive four-jet events produced in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV are analysed for the presence of hard double-parton scattering using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 37.3 pb$^{-1}$, collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The contribution of hard double-parton scattering to the production of four-jet events is extracted using an artificial neural network, assuming that hard double-parton scattering can be approximated by an uncorrelated overlaying of dijet events. For events containing at least four jets with transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}} \geq 20$ GeV and pseudorapidity $\eta \leq 4.4$, and at least one having $p_{\mathrm{T}} \geq 42.5$ GeV, the contribution of hard double-parton scattering is estimated to be $f_{\mathrm{DPS}} = 0.092 ^{+0.005}_{-0.011} (\mathrm{stat.}) ^{+0.033}_{-0.037} (\mathrm{syst.})$. After combining this measurement with those of the inclusive dijet and four-jet cross-sections in the appropriate phase space regions, the effective overlap area between the interacting protons, $\sigma_{\mathrm{eff}}$, was determined to be $\sigma_{\mathrm{eff}} = 14.9 ^{+1.2}_{-1.0} (\mathrm{stat.}) ^{+5.1}_{-3.8} (\mathrm{syst.})$ mb. This result is consistent within the quoted uncertainties with previous measurements of $\sigma_{\mathrm{eff}}$, performed at centre-of-mass energies between 63 GeV and 8 TeV using various final states, and it corresponds to $21^{+7}_{-6}$% of the total inelastic cross-section measured at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV. The distributions of the observables sensitive to the contribution of hard double-parton scattering, corrected for detector effects, are also provided.

The ratio of cross sections for inelastic muon scattering on xenon and deuterium nuclei was measured at very low Bjorken x (0.000 02<xBj<0.25). The data were taken at Fermilab experiment E-665 with a 490 GeV/c muon beam incident on liquid deuterium and gaseous xenon targets. Two largely independent analysis techniques gave statistically consistent results. The xenon-to-deterium per-nucleon cross-section ratio is constant at approximately 0.7 for xBj below 0.003.
